Climate Change

Climate change has many implications for coastal Florida, including the following:

  • increased rates of erosion and flooding from sea level rise
  • saltwater intrusion into estuaries, freshwater habitats and aquifers
  • increased storm intensity
  • increased incidence of disease-causing organisms
  • decreased ability of marine organisms including crabs, clams, oysters and corals to form shells or skeletons
