Classroom & field activities/resources
These activities have been created by or suggested by Florida marine educators.
- A Closer Look Activity Guide (New England Aquarium). Contains fish activities.
- Aquarium Resources (bibliography of books on aquarium keeping)
- Beach profiles (MA Sea Grant). I use a modified version of the profiling rods described in this bulletin. Instead of wooden poles, I use PVC. I use 1" painter's tape to mark the 1" increments on the vertical poles.
- Dichotomous Key for common saltwater fish. Note that this activity is designed for use with the included fish images ONLY. It is not intended to be a true all-encompassing key!
- Estuarine Aquarium Keeping for Beginners (VIMS)
- Field sampling equipment. An annotated list of field gear and uses developed for the Florida School for the Deaf & Blind.
- Field science on a shoestring budget. Document prepared to give teachers suggestions of ways to cut costs when aquiring field gear. Contains instructions for making several types of field sampling gear.
- Fish Behavior Bingo (Sea World) and worksheet.
- Fish tank territories. Activity from Woods Hole to observe fish behavior.
